Fun Fact:

Mike Literman is not ashamed to admit that he likes the band Chumbawamba. Chumbawamba circa ’82 – ’86, that is.

I’m beginning to hate what my life has become…

It’s true. I often give you, the audience advice. Good/bad/indifferent. It’s all there. Here’s some good advice. Don’t work at a position where you have to sell yourself? Like a hooker? No, not like a hooker.

As you know, I am a web developer. I create websites for a living. I work for a small company. Very small. Things are slow, you know that. Business is not booming and because of that, I need to pitch some work. It’s not easy. Everyone and their brother think they are web designers and those people also think they are web developers. Everyone knows HTML and some thing that’s all they need. So people who do bad work take all the work and give my profession a bad name. So I have to deal with this.

When you become a certain age and are in this type of work, not specifically web development, but artists, sales people, construction, and so many more, you become a jerk. Everyone who you meet, you ask “Oh, what do you do?” which is just bait for “Oh, maybe this dude needs a website/my services now or in the future.”. I don’t even care what you do, I just need work. I still am far from an adult but I ask these questions in order to make ends meet. It’s such an empty thing to say, right along the lines of “How’s the weather today” and “Did you watch the game last night?”. Sometimes, I’m sincere, but it just comes out.

So I bought business cards to make myself more professional because I’m sick of writing my legitimate credentials on flyers for Sublime cover band shows. They’re ridiculous, so I hope to keep some cred and also make people know what they’re getting into. I know that I’m going to start using the line “Here’s my card” and the whole cliche deal soon.

So, soon I’ll be completely dead inside, carrying around a bunch of my cards, trying to get free lunches here and there from local restaurants, smoozing with people I can’t stand just to make a buck. I’ll see you in hell, capitalism.
